Water, & Power Connections - Small & Medium DC & DC Pulsed Power

There are a range of options for the power and water connections for the magnetrons. On lower power cathodes (10-12 kW), the recommended bulkhead connector is an 7/16 type with RG393 cable type (RG 214 also OK for DC / DC pulsed, RG213 for DC only). Optionally, tri-axial cable can be used which offers some advantages for high frequency power.

As standard on external magnetrons the water connections are made inside the rear safety shield direct to the water fitting. The size of the feed pipe will be determined by the cathode size and power level. As an option, insulated bulkead water connectors can be fitted (as shown). This type of connector also has a water 'shut-off' to isolate the water during magnetron removal and target change.

All Gencoa rectangular cathodes have cooling of the cathode and the anode. Anode cooling is via the rear mounting plate or as an option integral to the side anode walls.

Water, & Power Connections - Higher power cathodes

As the power level increases over 20kW it is recommended that a direct connection is made to the cathode power input. This is located inside the rear shield and the cable is brought through a fixing gland on the rear shield. Likewise the water tubes can be brought straight to the cathode water input / output, thereby minimizing drops in water pressure. Bulkhead water and power connections can be accommodated on request. When using a metal type bulkhead water connector, care must be taken to ensure no charge is carried from the cathode to the connector. This will be determined by the conductivity of the water system.
