Robust carbon based PVD coatings
for low friction applications

Gencoa Ltd is offering the implementation of a carbon based PVD coating with excellent low friction and low wear properties.The coating process is proprietary and is highly developed over a 5 year period. However there is no patent protection due to the large amount of 'prior art' that exists in the carbon coating technology.

The nature of the carbon layer is essentially graphitic based. Metal is used to provide high adhesion and mechanical toughness. The process is advanced but is very easy to operate and maintain, and is non-reactive. The hardware costs for implementation are below that of other PVD reactive processes such as nitride and carbide hard coatings.
Gencoa are now aiming to provide implementation and support for the process. The support can also include equipment design, although not complete machine manufacture.

The agreement can be made on a global scale or can be done on a country or regional basis. The terms are flexible and can be exclusive or non-exclusive depending upon the needs of the potential user.
Application areas for the coating are wide-spread and it is a highly competitive coating compared to existing commercial carbon and carbide based low friction coatings. The introduction low friction coating types over that last 2-3 years have started a rapid expansion of the market for such materials.
The coating has been tested in a range of applications and samples can be provided for assessment.
Gencoa is a highly successful manufacturer of magnetron sputter sources and is also very active in process development. Gencoa does not aim to manufacture complete deposition equipment or provide a coating service, hence the need to make partnerships with such companies.

The carbon system requirements are also fully compatible with the deposition of a Zycoa, also currently being offered for exploitation by Gencoa.
